    Blue Birds

It's nothing new that succulents have taken the world by storm. Their no-fuss, low maintenance characteristics make them perfect for even the blackest of thumbs. When most people think of succulents they think of the smaller varieties such as the rosette shaped Echeveria or Senecios. But what if you're looking for a larger succulent, something that looks at home both potted and also planted amongst other species in a garden bed? What you're looking for, is Crassula 'Blue Bird'.

This drought tolerant cousin to the classic Jade Plant is a favourite at United Care Landscaping where we use it in pots, planted in garden beds amongst other 'bunned' shaped plants, even mass planted to really show off the plant's unique foliage. Crassulas are extremely drought tolerant, fine in high winds, and can handle front-line salt, which makes them perfect for balconies and rooftops

The silvery grey tones of the foliage which is well suited to darker pots like black and charcoal, is shaped like silver dollars. Although this hardy succulent can handle plenty of neglect, just be careful of frosts and over-watering, which will begin to rot the plant from the stem. Make sure you plant in a good quality free-draining soil, ideally in a Sunny to Part-Shade location. We find Crassula 'Blue Birds' do best in full sun.

    We're Loving: Pastels

2017 certainly seems to be the year of pastels. You can expect to start seeing more of those sugary-sweet pastel colours gracing everything from clothes to garden pots.

Why we're loving these? The connection between home and garden is never been stronger. Indoor plants are in and that means indoor pots too. We think these pastel pots will brighten any corner of your home and look absolutely amazing with dark green foliage when planted in a cluster of three.
